The 1st Ocean Theme kit from ELECFREAKS--- microbit Nezha Pro Ocean Kit

ELECFREAKS is focusing on the development of the micro:bit kits and accessories for many years, each year we will release new products in different themes and types catering for the development of the technology and acquisition of knowledge.

Here, in this blog we will share our new theme product--- Nezha Pro Ocean Kit.

The Nezha Pro Ocean kit uses programming blocks as a medium and revolves around ocean knowledge. Through a project-based learning method, students learn about marine ecology and biodiversity, understand the unique survival skills of marine organisms, and understand human development and utilization of the ocean, such as tidal power generation and marine aquaculture. Explore the challenges in the development of marine resources and try to propose solutions. At the same time, in the face of problems brought about by human activities to the marine ecology and environment, learn how to respond and try to provide solutions. This course aims to enhance students' understanding of the ocean, stimulate their interest in ocean exploration, and plant a seed of yearning for the ocean in their hearts.

Maybe you are wondering why we want to create the Ocean kit? The ocean on the earth takes up about 71% of the globe and it has the most bountiful natural resources that are playing key roles in the industries of food, transportation and energies. But these developments may also harm the ocean environment during the process of developing these resources and also harm the living habits for the marine lives. Thus, protection the ocean from these overdue development is very vital.

These are policies made from different countries:

United States:

Biodiversity Conservation: The National Marine Biodiversity Strategy, released in 2024, proposes a three-pronged plan, including integrating federal agency data, establishing a community engagement mechanism, and using eDNA technology to monitor marine biodiversity. Community co-management is being implemented in marine national monuments such as the Mariana Trench, promoting the participation of indigenous peoples in ecological conservation.

European Union:

Pollution Prevention: The Marine Strategy Framework Directive requires member states to establish a system for controlling the total amount of pollutants entering the ocean. By 2023, the proportion of water quality in EU coastal waters reaching good or excellent levels will reach 85%, but areas such as the Baltic Sea still face eutrophication problems. The Single-Use Plastics Directive bans the sale of 10 types of single-use plastic products and encourages member states to establish marine litter monitoring networks.

Blue Economy Integration: The EU's "Blue Economy" strategy integrates industries such as renewable energy and sustainable fisheries into a unified framework, with the output value of these industries reaching €850 billion by 2023. The North Sea accounts for 40% of the world's installed offshore wind power capacity and plans to reach a target of 150GW by 2030.

Thus, to help children with a better understanding on the marine life and the utilization of the marine resources, we create this Nezha Pro Ocean Kit with over 16 cases, with Shawn’s ocean adventure as the main line of the story, each case uses Shawn's ocean adventure story as the introduction scene to raise questions and guide students to discuss and explore based on practical problems.

Here you can find the main packing list of this kit:

Nezha Pro Ocean Kit

Equipped with the latest Nezha Pro breakout board containing batteries and the Smart Motor, together with the sensors of Sonar:bit, DHT11, OLED, Water level, Rainbow LED, Crash sensor, Light sensor, Trimpot and the Line following sensor, these planetX sensors with the packed building blocks make many project easy to achieve. Nezha Pro can operate without a micro:bit, allowing you to experiment and innovate freely and it is perfect for advanced users or those who want to explore beyond traditional setups.

These proprietary color-coded sensor ports perfectly match MakeCode programming blocks, which is quite easy and friendly for students to code and get connected among hardware parts.
And the PlanetX Smart Brick Motor merges pinpoint servo accuracy with powerful motor drive in one product – reacting instantly to commands, handling heavy builds,
and protecting itself from overheated.

The wiki reference cases would go with the clue from the adventure of Shawn, by now there would be 16 cases available, it goes with more likely as a story-telling method which would also be somehow different from our usual cases information. We’d like to explore the chances to bring funnier stories while we are trying to teach users how the projects could be achieved mechanically and physically, and for more chances to stimulate the ideas and inspire them to put them into practices.
